How to plan five days in Bali

Bali is an island of living Hindu traditions, irrigated rice landscapes, volcanic highlands and distinct coastal regions—not a single resort destination.

The strongest route begins with ubud and royal bali, then moves through rice and water temples and volcanic highlands. Keep the final two days flexible for weather, reservations and the places that deserve more time.

The day-by-day route

Day one covers Palace, market and a responsible performance. Day two focuses on Tegallalang or Jatiluwih with Tirta Empul. Day three continues with Batur viewpoints and lakeside villages.

Day four is built around Uluwatu, beaches and kecak, while day five leaves room for Sanur, Nusa Dua, Canggu or a conservation-minded island day. This sequence limits unnecessary backtracking.

  • Day 1: Ubud and royal Bali — Palace, market and a responsible performance.
  • Day 2: Rice and water temples — Tegallalang or Jatiluwih with Tirta Empul.
  • Day 3: Volcanic highlands — Batur viewpoints and lakeside villages.
  • Day 4: South-coast temples — Uluwatu, beaches and kecak.
  • Day 5: Choose your coast — Sanur, Nusa Dua, Canggu or a conservation-minded island day.

Food, transport and reservations

Use a licensed driver is practical for regional days. Build meal stops around Nasi campur, Babi guling or jackfruit alternatives, Lawar and satay lilit and other established local specialties rather than crossing the destination for a single famous venue.

Reserve the busiest heritage sites from official sources, verify current entry rules, and keep enough time for security, weather and ordinary local travel.
