Give Tokyo half the trip

Begin with four or five nights in Tokyo so jet lag, station navigation and neighborhood scale do not overwhelm the first days. Group Asakusa and Ueno, Shibuya and Harajuku, and central Tokyo into separate geographic days.

Use Kyoto as the cultural base

Move to Kyoto for three nights and start its most visited districts early. Divide the city into eastern, central and western routes. Do not treat every temple as interchangeable; choose sites for their history, landscape or artistic importance.

  • •Days 1–4: Tokyo neighborhoods and one flexible day.
  • •Days 5–7: Kyoto by geographic district.
  • •Days 8–10: Osaka food, history and departure logistics.

Finish in Osaka

Osaka provides a more relaxed final base with direct access to food districts, Osaka Castle context and major transport. Compare the exact cost of individual train tickets with any rail pass; no pass is automatically the best value.
