Plan Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper with protected-area rules, shuttle reservations and mountain-road flexibility.

Use fewer bases
Split the trip between Banff or Canmore, the Lake Louise area when appropriate, and Jasper. The Icefields Parkway is a scenic day, not a quick transfer; daylight, wildlife, closures and stops all affect timing.
Reserve the constrained pieces
Popular lakes may require official shuttles or restricted parking arrangements. Campgrounds, certain activities and peak-season accommodation can fill far ahead. Verify current Parks Canada rules instead of relying on an old itinerary.
- •Carry emergency supplies and warm layers.
- •Keep wildlife at a safe distance.
- •Never stop unsafely for photographs.
- •Check wildfire and air-quality information.
Build a weather alternative
Mountain conditions change quickly. Pair major outdoor days with shorter walks, visitor centers, hot springs or town time that can move when visibility or safety changes.
